hollands soap box!

Summer is quickly drawing to a close. School supplies are filling the store shelves. My list of things to accomplish before the seasons end only seems to be growing instead of decreasing in size. Hmmm there is a common thread there with my waistline too. (Oh but we can save that for another post) Since everyone is looking for a way to make an extra buck these days I have noticed a strange incomprehensible trend. The average shopper seems to be buying as if the economy was just crying wolf. The aisles that one would assume to be bare are not at all, rather they are smashed full of trinkets and strange nuances from what looks like the 80’s. I would go as far to say the big department stores had the organizing crew come in from one of those TV shows we all love to watch come in and clean out their closets. Then in vain and desperate attempt put the junk on the shelves for us mindless consumers to devour. Who does the market research for such things and why is it validated? Not only that but instead of caring about how the precious items were displayed stores are haphazardly dispersing the school supplies with the leftover Fourth of July pinwheels and the multicultural Santa’s!
Really! Do they really want me to be thinking of how much money I have (get) to spend on Christmas as I am paying way to much already for the 24 pack of color crayons that in two weeks will be marked down pennies anyway? Then to go on to ponder what this countries freedom means when I go to plunk down a fortune in 3rd world country standards. Most likely without a doubt I would be walking out of that store with only milk and bread in hand which by the way are on opposite ends of the store.
